Sharafat Hussain Khan

Born in 1931, Sharafat Hussain Khan belonged to a family of musicians. He started learning vocal music at an early age from his father Liaquat Hussain Khan, a court musician in the Jaipur durbar. Thereafter, Sharafat Hussain Khan learnt from renowned vocalist Faiyaz Khan and Ata Hussain Khan, also a respected vocalist.

An exponent of the Agra-Atrauli tradition of Hindustani vocal music, he began performing at the age of eight. At the age of eleven, he received the Rising Sun award at the Gaya Sammelan. His earliest commercial recordings were also made when he was very young.
