Krishna Janamashthami Sewa (music concert)
On the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, we are featuring a special Haveli Sangeet raag sewa (ritual offering of music for Krishna) by Chandraprakash from Ajmer. Haveli sangeet is a form of devotional music closely allied with Hindustani art music and is sung in temples (havelis) as an offering to Krishna.
Haveli Sangeet compositions base themselves on the daily life cycle of Krishna with specific verses to be sung at specific hours for awakening and feeding the lord, and to accompany his other activities through the day. In addition, they also talk of Krishna’s leelas (pastimes) and there are special repertoires associated with specific seasons and festivals.
