Vocalist Ishtiaq Hussain Khan was the son and disciple of Mushtaq Hussain Khan of the Sahaswan-Rampur gharana. Mushtaq Hussain Khan was the son of Kallan Khan of Sahaswan, and had learnt from his maternal uncle Puttan Khan, his father-in-law Inayat Hussain Khan, and Wazir Khan.

Like his father, Ishtiaq Hussain Khan also served for a while in the princely court of Rampur. He was a repository of compositions from his gharana.
